Semantic = Related to meaning.
The poem Poppies has the semantic Field of clothing. We know this by Jane’s repetitive use of talking about clothes. ‘As I rounded up as many white hairs as I could’

‘I smoothed down your shirt’ Action to make herself feel better by use of word “Smoothed”

Jane Weir’s poem ‘Poppies’ presents conflict because she writes about the inner turmoil that a mother goes through overthrow life of her son. The author uses the semantic field of clothing to present this idea
The mum feels nervous as she prepares her son for his next step in life. We know this by the semantic use of clothing she talks about for when her son is about to start his first day in his new school. The reason why she uses clothing is because
We know this when she has to “Stitch” her son’s clothing, to make him ready and well presentable. By doing this she feels anxious because of how she chooses the word of ‘Stitch’ which gives an interpretation of pain.
